The SENDirect blogspot
This is the SENDirect bloggers community - or the blogspot! It is a space for parents, carers, their children and just about anyone really who wants to tell their stories, impart their wisdom or just plain SHOUT to get online and do it. We have weekly bloggers, monthly bloggers and people who just blog when they fancy it - or have a minute!
SENDirect was designed with families for families. One of the things families told us was important to them was hearing from other families, and in turn being able to share their experiences with others. Some families said they like to do this in person and others said they wanted a more public forum.
Families also told us they were sick of having to ‘prove’ that the experiences they have are real, and feeling like their experiences and emotional reactions were constantly judged and compared to others. They told us they wanted to feel accepted and trusted to express in a way that felt natural to them what was going on with their families. We've provided a place where they don’t have to pretend to be chipper when that’s not how they feel, or feel like they are letting the side down when they want to praise their Local Authority for something they’ve done well. Families wanted to be able to express their uniqueness and we at SENDirect want to support them to do that.
That’s why we invited families to use SENDirect as a place to share their experiences and point of view. Our family blogs are a space for them to express their viewpoint on what they are experiencing, authentically and without editing. We do not ask families to prove that the experiences they describe happened, fact check or edit families blogs in any way.
We haven’t imposed a house style on our bloggers. If all our blogs sound different that is because they are. They are the voices of the families that wrote them.
In order for families to use this space in this way it is important that we are clear that comments or opinions expressed in blogs on the SENDirect site are those of their respective contributors only. The views expressed on blogs do not necessarily represent the views of SENDirect.
Please consider the blogs a place to share experiences. If you are looking for quality checked information we suggest you use our information pages.
If you are interested in writing a blog and joining in then just drop us an email and we can go from there!
